Description de l'objet:
Le bitcoin, qui nécessite une performance très élevée, repose sur une technologie très polluante (blockchains utilisant la Proof-of-Work). D'après le Center for Alternative Finance de l'Université de Cambridge, il consomme 124 térawatts/h (TWh) chaque année, soit autant que la Norvège ou l'Argentine, et plus que la Suisse (56 TWh) et l'Autriche (67 TWh) réunies. Dans l'interpellation Molina 19.4137, le Conseil fédéral a reconnu le faible écobilan du bitcoin. Aucun chiffre exact de la consommation énergétique du bitcoin n'existe toutefois en Suisse. La Stratégie Suisse numérique ne précise pas non plus comment le Conseil fédéral entend faire réduire la consommation énergétique du bitcoin et des autres cryptomonnaies. Le Conseil fédéral prévoit même d'encourager à long terme la TRD dans son ensemble, dont font partie les blockchains et leur application, le bitcoin. Rappelons que la Suisse a ratifié l'accord de Paris sur le climat et a adopté la Stratégie énergétique 2050. Il serait dès lors fatal de vouloir faire de la Suisse un havre de la technologie de la blockchain, si polluante, sans tenir compte des répercussions sur le climat.
